Bonding and properties
Practise charge balance, electron diagrams and explanations of properties with your teacher.
Written practice
Bring the three-page worksheet to class. Record the two teacher models, then attempt questions 4–7 independently before comparing reasoning with your regular partner. Complete question 8 on your own.
Download review worksheet ↓Questions 9–11 are optional practice after the lesson.
When you need a starting point
Writing a formula
Write the ion charges. Find equal positive and negative totals. Keep each polyatomic ion intact, then check the brackets and simplest ratio.
Drawing a dot-and-cross diagram
Count all outer electrons. Place shared pairs, then remaining lone pairs. Check two electrons around H and eight around N or O.
Explaining a property
Name the structure. Identify the relevant bonds or forces, or mobile charged particles. Link these to the energy needed or to charge movement.
After class
Improve one explanation after feedback and record one topic to revisit.
